Matt Hamilton has confirmed his entry into the British Touring Car championship for the remainder of the 2009 season. The 19 year old from Hemel Hempstead will be racing a TH Motorsport prepared Honda Civic Type R, at the Rockingham and Brands Hatch rounds of the championship later this month.
“This championship is where I want to be in 2010 and these two races are the perfect chance to get the experience and a feel for life in the BTCC” the Formula Palmer Audi race winner continued “after testing the car at Donington a few weeks ago I was pleased with how I adapted to the front wheel drive touring car, along with my pace. However I am under no illusions that this change of career path will be easy. It will be my biggest challenge yet and I cannot wait to get out there on the same track as guys regarded the best drivers in the UK and some, even in the World.” Matt’s debut in the series will come at the Rockingham race track, a circuit where he competed successfully last year in the British Formula Ford championship. Speaking about the change of car, Matt stated “the change into front wheel drive is the biggest obstacle I must overcome. I got a good feel for the car at the Donington test but come the race meeting I will still be learning. All I can do is to try and learn as fast as possible. I have no qualms about doing my testing in public, and being new to touring cars, I'm sure I'll gain a lot more by racing against other cars than by driving round on my own on a test day."
Matt will race alongside TH Motorsports’ Honda Integra-R, driven by regular driver, John George for the remainder of the season.
Tickets to the penultimate round of the 2009 season start from £23 and are available to purchase on the Rockingham website. |
